Real Tone Cable or Regular Audio Cable.... static?
Alot of people trash the real tone cable for alot of reasons and I know in the past (maybe not now) some people had a way to use a regular audio cable into the line in or mic jack on the soundcard to get it to work.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried both and can see if there is any difference at all on quality?

I have an old Peavey Predator which is a Strat clone I guess and it has single coil pickups. I know from other experience that for whatever reason, my line in doesnt work and I have to go through my mic jack if I want to input my guitar to my PC but it comes with alot of static everytime I play a note.

I haven't played this yet but as mentioned, when doing past experiments with interfacing my guitar to my PC.. if I pluck a string I get static towards the end of the note as it is lowering in volume.

I'm not sure if this is an input to PC issue or if it may be caused by the single coil pickups. Or if its cause I'm using the mic jack instead of the line in. I want to get rocksmith but I don't want to have to upgrade to humbuckers cause it would be alot of trouble to swap them out.

Thoughts?

You guys are a riot.

Maybe I neglected to drive this point home but I'll do so now either way... Considering I want to not only use Rocksmith 2014 but also use other AMP sim software... That is why I am trying to go a route of NOT using the real tone cable if I could help it.

I was considering getting it, but then I thought "why would I want to spend $30 on this cable that is ONLY useful in this one game, when I could buy a cheap audio interface for the same price or a little more and use that on everything."

If I only planned to play this game and not interface with the PC in any other way, sure that would make sense.

The main advice I keep hearing here is "just buy the cable, just buy the cable, it works fine."

Not really the point of what I asked. The real question here was: "I'm wondering if anyone has tried both and can see if there is any difference at all on quality?"

Both as in a direct to PC interface (with or without an audio interface) and with the real tone cable.

Thanks anyway but I can tell after all this I'm asked in the wrong place and have rectified that already. To the few people here that were helpful, thank you.

There is nothing any other USB cable can do that the RT cable can't, AND it's officially supported with Rocksmith.

U obviously have no idea what you're talking about to say that.. Or what an audio interface is since u referred to it as a USB cable. Smh

Your point? My hunch is you were fishing for a solution under the guise of a static issue to play the rocksmith software without a real tone cable. Good luck and farewell.

Not on PC. On xbox one s, yes, but not enough to be unplayable by any stretch.

Edit: No lag on xbox one s now. I fixed it. So now no lag on PC or Xbox.
