I think the closest thing visually might be Synthesia (https://www.synthesiagame.com/), but I've never tried to learn piano, so I couldn't say for sure if it's good or not.

There's also Rock Band 3's "Pro Key Mode", but obviously that's an older game for consoles and might not be convenient to get these days.

Yousician has a piano path as well as guitar and uke, maybe more.

I think there is also one called (off the top of my head) Melodica (??). That caught my eye because it focusses on keyboards but also covers drum machines/patterns.

That does makes sense. I'll have to check out simply piano.
I've been using a little keyboard to help me figure out chord structures and I want to get more proficient. I learned music notation and interval training from singing in a choir as a child. It's all helped get my head around music; none of it's been time wasted.

Synesthesia is the one I see people using on youtube. It's a falling notes game, like Guitar Hero and Rocksmith.

Awesome, I looked into it because my wife would like to learn piano. I'll have to get her a decent keyboard for her birthday now

Maybe? I had to read your post a couple times to realize you hadn't written synesthesia, so I might have just misread when I was posting too.

You could try Lumi Keys, although I have heard the keyboards, at least the first ones, suck. However, it does look like Rocksmith on the webpage linked below.

Wow, interesting product. Seems really overpriced for a laptop that has had all of it's functions stripped away to be converted into only a keyboard that runs a fancier looking version of Synthesia. I bet it would be fun to use, and great to learn with, but it still seems like it would be much more economical to use bigger size keyboard for beginners that is connected to a cheap laptop running Synthesia.

When I saw the pic of what it was, I said to myself, "If it is under $200 CAD, I would consider getting it", turns out to be $299 EU. With shipping and handling it would be around $500 CAD.

I saw this keyboard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2xx4QY2As0 that I could get for about $250 CAD. The Piano can teach you songs by lighting up the keys to play. I figure that combined with Synthesia would be perfect to get for my wife's bday this year.
