In short, just also try the practice part of the game. And start songs with for instance riff repeater to build up.
Try to focus on a few songs in the beginning, instead of doing many and learn little.
I found that some songs i really liked were pretty tough to play......
the sale has just begun :) but it comes back more times in the year
Anyway, everything already has been said. And sale comes again indeed. A fun thing to do than is buy Rocksmith (the 1st), and also the CD-Import key, or whatever it is called (you buy it, it is official Rocksmith 2014 DLC). And then you get (almost) all the songs of Rocksmith 1 in your Rocksmith 2014!
And as a bonus Rocksmith (1) is pretty fun to play as well. I thought it wasn't as polished as playing in Rocksmith 2014. But it has some fun futures 2014 lacks.
This is your next best step; you will get around 50 more songs for less than 20 bucks. Just buy the original Rocksmith when it is on sale and the "import tool" for another 10 bucks, which lets you transfer the licensed songs over to Rocksmith 2014. Then you will get the songs listed on the three pages found here:

from what I read any official DLC will do the CDLC unlock, I think they already know and it's intended to be that way.
