It needs to plug into your guitar.

this is not true. There is a mode for Acoustic that is microphone based. It's new to remastered. I have tried it out and it works. Not perfect but close enough. The mic needs to be in front of the sound hole pretty close.

Another solution is to use a soundhole or piezo acoustic pickup with a powered pedal in front of the realtone cable. I bought a used setup for around $40 to play my full body acoustics.

Does it need to be a special microphone? Will a microphone from a headset work?

You have been able to use an acoustic guitar with Rocksmith since the beginning if you have a pickup that you can put into the opening of guitar under the strings. I have one, and it works well with an acoustic. I also went out and purchased a piezo pickup that sticks to the guitar with what appears to be tacky clay similar to the stuff you use to put up posters without putting holes in your drywall. This also works. The only real drawback is that you can have a feedback loop where your comptuers speakers get picked up by the devices, but there's a simple solution if you have that problem. Use headphones instead of the speakers. For testing, I played the game with a First Act parlor sized acoustic, worked surprizingly well. (not excellent, but I didn't expect it to work at all.) Hooking the tone hole pickup required a gender changer, so I could hook the real tone cable, but it too worked really well.

By the way, what microphone did you buy? I'm afraid I won't get a good one , and if yours is well I might buy the same or similar ☺

That option looks great Bee guy, but buying the tone cable, plus the pickup would make a really expensive option

this is the mic i bought, cost me 50$. im not sure you can find the exact same product in any country but pretty sure you can find something equivalent around the same price tag. no matter which mic you buy make sure it has a usb adapter/plug on it.
