to a person we are going to tell you to get a RS cable. Without the cable quality of note recognition is iffy, the mic mode isn't very good, You will reduce significant playing issues wit a cable.

Try to find an original Rocksmith game on sale someplace in the box. The cable is the same and you can save some money. However GET THE CABLE.

That would be the worst way to try to connect. You could run into grounding issues, and that MIC input is not meant to be used that way and you could cause serious issues with your computer or at best, get really poor results. The best option and the best result is to get the RS RealTone cable that is designed for it, like Paladin stated all the RT cables are the same. So you can order a cable that is listed for xbox or playstation and it will work on PC or MAC.

Caldaar said that RTC the best. How dare are you questioning the statement? :steammocking:

Thank you for your insightful input into this discussion. I am sure it really helped the OP.

Yeah, I see. It looks funny to me because we used to write RTFM to insult people, not to help them. So I believe my choice to ignore the question less rude than your input. I don't think OP needs any confirmation that RTC will work better than internal audio in most cases.

I misread the type of sarcasm... My bad. Sorry, please forgive me.

all you need is a normal guitar cable, audio interface and nocable program if you have these and dont wanna buy the overpriced ubisoft cable
just use nocable and use a guitar cable with a 3.5mm adaptor and plug into the line in at the back of the pc and youre good to go.

For simplicity and plug-and-playabiltiy, the real tone cable is the way go to. When I want to practice or play, I don't want to waste time noodling around with hacks, work-arounds, and other jick-jacking (although I admit I have in my younger days because I was more curious, poor, and cheap) Honestly get the real tone cable and start playing. If you encounter issues with the RT cable come here for help. But if you go the nocable route - good luck - you are your own tech support.

Yes, but it's not so terrible and time-consuming. I'm not much a fan of RTC because the only reason it's there is a lack of effort to port the game from consoles. I can easily imagine an outcome when every damn app and game would require its mouse for example, and of course, for a better experience.
