I think various combinations of VR and augmented reality, such as look at your guitar and literally see the notes approaching the frets, will be arriving. It is too obvious; there will probably be lots of these kinds of programs in the not too distant future. I hope the RS devs are working on something, and that they take it a lot farther and blow away the competition.
VR and AR are a serious disruptive technology. I don't think people realize how much this is going to change our lives.

My pleasure. I am sure there is more out there and a flood coming over the next several years.
Here is a link to music related VR software on Oculus' platform. I own Jam Session VR and have had plenty of fun for $2.99.

Augmented reality allows for seeing the real world alongside the virtual. You will be able to see your guitar, or any instrument, along with some virtual guide indicatiing what notes to play. AR Rocksmith, I hope they are working on it. The first headsets by Microsoft arrived over the holidays. Future Apple and Android phones will support AR too.
Here is an AR example merging Super Mario with a walk in the park.

I've heard that Samsung's is the best.
