I have the Rock Band 3 pro guitar for PS3. Is this usable with Rocksmith for PC?
I own this guitar, which I used some time ago with Rock Band 3 for PS3: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Mustang-PRO-Guitar-Controller-PlayStation-3/dp/B003RS1A7Y

Would this still be usable/useful with Rocksmith?

I'm not sure what you mean (it's not a GREAT guitar, but...), though that's not the exact product I own, either. Upon further inspection, it looks like this is it (I didn't buy it in a store/online, a friend gave it to me):

Ah, that makes a little more sense, I suppose. However, as far as I know/can see, the MIDI controller piece is completely separate from the guitar, itself (it's a box that plugs into the guitar, and then to the controller - basically comes between the "guitar" and system), though I'm not sure that makes much difference, as the "audio" jack is separate from the little box.

I only really question this as it has a completely separate audio-out, which (seems to me) would be pointless if all it did was function as a game controller.

You have to use an actual guitar. One that you could plug into an amp and actually play it, like you would buy at guitar center or something. You must get this cable (or one like it) too: https://www.amazon.com/Ubisoft-Rocksmith-Not-Machine-Specific-630570063043006306200/dp/B005OSFUZI

I don't think that will work but it can't hurt to try. If you can make it make sounds kinda like a real guitar it will work.

With the Rockband 3 Pro Guitar... First. It is a guitar. But there are spacers in the frets for the MIDI function that can cause problems with bends. If you correct Intonation issues, adjust the pickups (you probably already did that for Rockband 3), set the string height... etc then it will work pretty decently to get you started.. You will need the Realtone cable, and use that. A MIDI cable will not work.

You might be able to trim the spacers clean to help with bending notes... The main issue is that the string might catch on the spacer, cutting the sustain of the note.

Also, keep in mind, the plastic contruction of the fretboard (which is done to allow a channel for the MIDI wires to be ran through).. do affect the sustain of the notes. It doesn't have a long sustain, so you might need to restrum strings during sustains in the software.

I know this, because it was the very first guitar I used for Rocksmith 1.

If you have the one from the second link, it's an actual guitar with added midi electronics for Rock Band. (A ♥♥♥♥ one, but still a guitar.)

You simply need to use the 1/4 jack, with a Rocksmith cable.

I learned a lot using RS and the RB3 guitar... It wasn't till I was wanting to play songs with a lot of bends that I got my first push to buy a regular guitar to get better on that skill... And now I have a few different gutiars.

Thanks. I'm completely aware that it's a...yeah..."guitar," but I'm just barely above "learner" right now and have only a small desire (and time) to actually get better. For the time being. (This is the same thought I had when I owned a keyboard, which I now love, soooo...)

This is perfect. It's awesome. I really appreciate the help and straight, informed answer. Thanks!

Rocksmith cable arrived today. Seems to work with the Rock Band PS3 Pro guitar; could be I'm not tuning it correctly (likely?), but I get through the calibration all right and it sounds just fine, but the notes don't quite pick up readily when I choose to learn a song.

First, make sure the volume dial is all the way up to 10. And then recalibrate. When you recalibrate...and it says louder... just strum, don't hammer on it. When it says to mute the strings, mute them then take your hand off.. Which allows it to adjust for any normal buzz from the pickups.

Then if you still have issues... there are other things to check. The Intonation, the string height, the pickup height. Some googling should get you some videos to help with those. It should be setup to the same as a standard Fender Squire.

If you still have a specific string with issues, I think there are screws on the individual pickups (hidden under the white cover) that you can adjust the gain on a specific string. But you probably wont need to do that if it worked fine for Rockband.

If you fellas miss playing with the rock band 3 pro guitar you can play on YARG which actually has support for that guitar. Or even Rock Band 3 Deluxe on a ps3 emulator.

For the lucky few here that have the Fender RB3 guitar you can use that on both rockband and rocksmith, must be fun :)
