Tuner Stuck at 999
Whenever i try to tune my bass, I pluck the low E string and the tuner sticks at 999. i have to rapidly strum my string for the tuner to unfreeze. On top of that, it does not recognize the sound when i play. This does not effect my other strings on the tuner however. I plugged into my amp, it sounds fine. HELP ME!!!!!

I've had this problem since the Remastered patches started coming out. Make sure you're not in "emulated bass" mode.

999 eh? Makes you want to commit a... Homicide?

Yeah check that you're not in emulated bass mode.

It is not in emulated bass mode.

Well, that is odd then. I assume you've made sure all your volumes are turned up when calibrating? Can you tune with a 6-string? Maybe your cable is faulty. Not sure what else it could be if it sounds okay from your amp.

I have had this issue since remastered came out, as well.

It isn't really a big deal since I just cancel the tuner and use the tuner in the pause menu once songs start to make sure Rocksmith is detecting what it should be detecting.

Something that helped was changing the headstock setting one day... I felt like playing a yamaha fretless with some tones, so I switched it from 4 in line (Jazz basses) to the 2+2 setting (yamaha fretless) but forgot to change it back when I switched to the jazz bass... leaving it like this caused the 999 thing to only last about a second or two before it snaps down to accurate readings... but that is not a fix or a cause, it is just something that made it easier than having to cancel the tuner, then go in the song, then pause the song to use the OTHER tuner.

Out of curiousity:

1- Are you POSITIVE that you have set up the bass and that the pickups are close enough/output is fine?
(I assume they are cuz amp has no issues but in these forums you gotta ask at least once)

2- By any chance, are you using steel strings? I use steel strings on all my basses and thought maybe this was causing the issues with the tuner since they are SUPER BRIGHT
(whatcanisay, i love steel strings :approved:)

3- Have you tried more than one bass?

4- Do you use a pick? Have you tried using a pick while tuning?

IIRC, there was also someone having bass problems who had active pickups and low batteries.

I have experienced this and still do from time to time. What worked for me was pushing on the string just forward of the bridge saddle. The low E on a bass is so thick that it can have problems sitting properly over the saddle and doesn't "speak" properly. Pushing on the string just forward of the saddle helps it to settle into the correct shape. I have had to repeat this several times but it eventually seems to have settled on the one bass that caused the most problems. Another thing you could try is a taperwound low E. This has only the solid core at the bridge saddle point and the windings start just after that. I've got one as a low B on a 5 string and it allows the string to settle on the bridge much more easily. You can get taperwound strings of the correct guage for the low E as well. Good luck and I hope you fix your problem. Rocksmith is just awsome for bass.

This is great advice for general bass maintenance and restringing that BPC has provided, though I would suggest 2 things for people doing this for the first time:

1- Before you do it, figure out how to do it right and why it works... Here is a very quick demonstration of what you are trying to do, but feel free to find more information so you really understand what you are doing! https://youtu.be/hJ-uXjEIz-A?t=9m

2-You wanna be careful as it CAN (if not done properly) cause kinks/frays on the higher strings if you move past these "new" bends
(also, if you have string through bridge/body... you don't really need to do this)

I know I'm a few months late to this game, but I have the same problem. If I turn the volume down on the bass, it sometimes helps. It's especially weird that the in-song tuner doesn't show any issue. I think this is a bug in the Remastered version since this didn't happen before.

I have a real bass, not in emulated mode, and it has passive pickups.

I like the idea of just cancelling tuning and then pausing before the song really starts and using the in-song tuner, so thanks for that advice.

What's the best way to report this apparent bug to the Rocksmith people?
UbiVertigo Mar 6, 2017 @ 8:21am
Hey paulgraves, the best way to report issues is through a support ticket, which can be made here.[support.ubi.com] But, just so I can get some clarification on how this issue is affecting you: Is the tuner stuck at 999 for all strings? And does it start off correct then pop up to 999, or is it always at 999 for the affected strings?
