help please

I got the game yesterday and I went to play it and it says I ran out of memory and to close any open programs, but I didn't have any open programs, I made sure I have the right amount of ram and I do but it's just barely enough, it wont even let me get to a point where I turn down the graphics, is there anyway I can get around this or am I screwed until I can get a new computer? thanks
