Should you play it in VR?
For those of you who have already played it does it feel more meant for VR? I'm about the push the button on a Playstation VR2 and the game would be a perfect fit for it. Just curious if the regular version feels normal or more catered to VR.

I first bought the game on my Quest 2, then refunded it and bought it on Steam. The reason was I felt nauseous playing it, which was a shame because I haven't had trouble with any other games.

I like the VR experience because the environment felt more immersive, being able to look around, etc. However, the control scheme is DEFINITELY not VR-centric. Interacting with the world is done with two buttons: one toggles between look and use, and the other button activates look/use.

I'm sorry if this review sounds a little disjointed, I have just stayed up WAY too late playing the PC version with WASD movement and right/left click interactions. If the VR version hadn't made me sick, I would have happily kept playing that one. I hope this helps you make a decision :)

The game should come to SteamVR in a couple of months with slightly upgrade graphics, maybe. I have not heard anything about a PSVR2 release, and it may depend how well the game perform sales wise.

The vr version is great! Super immersive compared to flatscreen. FYI, It's somewhat of a point and click adventure, so little physical interaction with objects, which is ok by me, as the game is a great rendition of the original - not an easy feat. Great work by Ken and Roberta.

Thanks for these updates! All of the new features in PSVR 2 such as eye tracking, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers don't sound like they are going to be implemented as well. I read a post by Ken that it may just be an easy port from the Meta code that may take a month or longer to move over so I'm guessing a lot of features may go along the wayside. It would be really interesting to feel the shake of a sword or shield in your hand as it strikes something, etc. We'll have to see where that goes but it sounds like pretty much any version right now doesn't have an advantage over the other except VR needs more work. The plus side for everyone is another post I read that the VR version will likely be a free upgrade for people who already bought it but that could change.

How would I play this game in VR? I haven't bought this yet -- just wondering if the VR version is the same as this version (or if it's another paid title).

Based on what I read it will be a free upgrade to the base Steam version. Meta/Oculus has a VR version of this on their website right now. It's the same game as the original one here.

Correct. Unless we hit some logistical snag (which I do not expect), the SteamVR version will be bundled with the PC version and be free to existing purchasers.

I wouldn't say that the two versions are "the same" -- the VR experience is dramatically different. Personally, I love the VR version but bounce back and forth between PC and VR. For long play sessions the VR gets to me and I get nauseas.

FYI - We completely re-engineered the inventory system, and added a lot of "quality of life" enhancements since the initial release of the Quest 2 version. PC VR headset users will be very happy! The game was awesome as was, but is even better now.

Thanks for the update Ken! I will be saving this for my PSVR2 then. :)

Oh good! I was wondering why it didn't list VR support on the Steam page, its still coming. Looking forward to that.

Okay, I was looking for some clarity as well.

So, if I summarize:

- There's already a standalone Quest version in the Meta store
- There's also this PC/Steam version
- There's a VR DLC/add-on/version coming here on Steam, which will be free for owners of the PC/Steam game.

The upcoming PCVR Steam version will have better graphics compared to the standalone Quest version I suppose?

I submitted a support question to Steam yesterday. Our plan, subject to figuring how to get Steam to do this is to do the following pricing:

Colossal Cave - $24.99
(Includes PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck (Linux)/Steam VR (coming imminently)
Steam Deck (Linux) Only - $19.99
Steam VR Only - $19.99

If someone already purchased the game, they will get the SteamVR version and already have access to the Steam Deck version.

The desktop (or should I say flat-screen, or PC, or non-VR) version of the game is quite different than the VR version. The game is the same, but the implementation is VERY different. The VR version has a lot of enhancements in addition to being in VR.

Question for the devs: are you doing a VR version for Windows only, or also for Linux-based OSes?

Plenty Windows-only VR games work via Proton (a few don't), and there are some Linux-native ones. Half-Life: Alyx, for one.

You've asked a question I don't know the answer to. Are you sure SteamVR supports Linux? I'll ask the team, but I know the current plan is to do Windows/SteamVR only.

Yes. It's Linux-native despite being advertised as Windows-only. Installing the beta (“SteamVR beta update”) version is recommended.
