14th Gen i9 (14900k) and 4090 Issues FIXED!
Hey everyone,

I was super excited to play this game yesterday after work. Unfortunately that was not to be the case. The game would constantly crash upon main menu. I tried a number of things to fix the problem. From reading multiple different posts here fixes and problems are quite varied, which ofc can regularly be the case with PC games.

However I was determined to find a resolution to my issues.

The issues are primarily to do with CPU in my case. 14th Gen CPU's have issues with motherboards and their allocation to them.

The following article was of the most help - https://www.anandtech.com/show/21389/intel-issues-official-statement-regarding-14th-and-13th-gen-instability-recommends-intel-default-settings

This was actually provided as a helpful link to the issues from the developers - https://steamcommunity.com/app/2215430/discussions/0/7093810350790030876/#c7093810350790006318

The issue is primarily wrapped around the power allocation to the CPU in various loads. Intel recommends a lot higher as its defaults in comparison to what Motherboard manufacturers are doing out of the box as their defaults. This is the first game with this PC build where I had these issues but as this article and others similarly point out these CPU issues are quite broad.

I can't be certain this will be the fix for you, but I would recommend looking into it. It seems the key is amount of power allowed to the CPU and the loadline which is a key system to the variation in power.

I have a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Pro so for me I used Gigabye Control Center and modified the following;
Performance > CPU > Power
Power Limit: 295W
CPU Vcore Current Protection: Extreme
CPU Vcore Loadline Protection: Extreme

After applying these settings for my motherboard I was able to run the game at basically everything on the highest level. I was also able to use DLSS frame generation and played so far for an hour with no issues. I will be playing later tonight but I think its in a quite stable place now.

This fix may not work for you and I also urge you to ensure you are reading your motherboard documentation and ensure that you are changing the right settings as choosing the wrong settings could negatively impact your computer.

I hope this helps for those experiencing the issues and for those it doesn't I hope you get a solution soon and can get in there and explore this awesome game!

Fair point mate, from reading the article all I did was bring the configuration more in line with what Intel recommends as opposed to what Gigabyte has done. I felt that way too initially and contemplated the refund.

I was however pretty keen to play and since this was improving performance at the same time I thought "ah well may as well give it a crack".

Maybe they might have a patch for it sometime soon though!

If you are having issues on this game with a 13th or 14th gen intel cpu, you more than likely will probably have issues on Unreal Engine 5 games as well. It is a very common issue that has been going on for a year now ever since Remnant 2 game was released. Remnant 2 was one of the first actual games released on UE5 and that is when the problems started for intel 13th gen cpus and now 14th gen. It doesn't happen for every single user, but the problem definitely exists as Intel has finally admitted to the issue last month if you do a google search. Asus motherboards had the most common issues out of other motherboard brands.

Its not a game issue its an intel issue.

Shrugs. Talk to me when you had to configure autoexec.bat files on floppy's to get a game to work when you were 7.

I mean bios updates are as simple as they will ever be and you should do them anyway especially since motherboard manufacturers are super dumb when it comes to how much voltage they think they should pump into a cpu at default values.

Thank you so much!!!

I can play this game!

I had the exact same configuration and it was crashing on the title screen.

I changed the voltage settings as described and the game started up!

Intel has acknowledged the issue and said a patch will be released in mid-August.
