Do yourself a favor und buy a SSD, you dont have to buy a nvme but just do it for yourself.

M.2 ssd

honestly for this game not at all
on ps4 (which had an HDD) the game already had non-existent loading times, which was really impressive at the time it came out
this is what happens when devs are competent and know how to optimize a game

No need for SSD, this game was originally made for the old PS4 HDD and it runs pretty well with short loading times.

I'm a PC repair tech and I wouldn't recommend an HDD to anyone for any reason, unless they just don't care about their data or turtle slow load times
SSD is strongly recommended for faster loading time.

I've been building and repairing PCs for 23 years and have 257 games on my HDD and 14 on my SSD.

Also a real computer repair technician would advise compartmentalizing data as much as possible to minimize loss on hardware failure. I.e.: no one should have everything on 1 drive and people should have multiple drives with dedicated purposes.

Also also a real computer repair technician would test things for themselves and they would find that many many games gain absolutely no benefit from an SSD if RAM, CPU, and VRAM are adequate. There are tons and tons of popular games that do not load any faster on an SSD vs HDD because you are already hitting the engine compilation limits.
And telling someone to go buy an SSD they don't need is just anti-consumer of you when they can save money and get 4x the storage space. (care to show me a comparably priced 6TB SSD to replace my 6TB HDD?)

I am hitting 60fps no problem on a GTX 1660 OC and I have the game on a 7200RPM HDD.

If you could list your settings and the resolution of your monitor I can try to help you tweak things. Honestly I'm betting an upscaler is to blame. One thing you could try before listing all your settings is enabling Dynamic Super Resolution if it's not already. (I can't hit 60 without it, at least on mostly High settings)

Sweet, brown, baby Jesus kid. It’s 2024 and you aren’t using an SSD yet? At this point even if you had a SATA 3 SSD you should have replaced it with M.2 NVMe SSD’s at this point. The only thing old spinner drives belong in are redundant arrays for a NAS or something for archived files.

You need an SSD for anything in 2024 really. Except maybe file storage/media serving.

You should have one anyway

No you don't and you have been lied to. Stop trusting whoever told you this because they did not test things for themselves.

I was using just a hdd for the longest time, when I got my new gaming pc built and switched to a ssd, it was a night and day difference. Everything loaded up super quick compared to taking forever on my old hhd. Never going back to a hdd again.

Nah, my first response :

"Modern games can work on a HDD, but it's a stutter fest most of the time."

So I can perfectly accept the fact that, most of them, will work ok.
I also accept the fact that an ssd was the best change I've made in my computer, way better than buying a new useless graphic card. You are the one who can't accept anything about this topic.
