You are also not installing psn. You require psn for online play in mostly single player game, so people are more forgiving over it or again, simply don't care.
It's in the sony folder in c:\programdata

I think we have different understanding of what psn is. Like we are likely installing infrastructure to be able to use psn but not psn it self since that is on sony server side.
Though I would guess for some there is no difference.
It continues running as a process while the game is running even if you don't log in.
