I just created a post for this but it didn't even appear in the discussions list.

In cutscenes I don't mind but ingame I would prefer full screen.

The Black Bars are only in cutscenes

Check your aspect ratio, you might be playing at 21x9 on a 16x9 monitor

Its ok, after restarting the game ingame it now shows fullscreen but thx anyway for trying to help :)

i assume there will be a mod made hopefully in the coming days, black cinematic bars just dont look right on a 21:9 monitor

Absoultely..you can argue about it on a big tv screen, even though I personally don't need it there either. But on a mostly smaller PC screen it's just annoying.

Also I don't understand how it should help the immersion as I find the transition from cutscenes with black bars to fullscreen or vice versa the opposite.

But maybe I shouldn't say that to loud as some devs may get the idea to make the black bars also during the gameplay instead of just give us an option to turn it on or off according to our preference.

Well clearly it's a sign to play it fully in Kurosawa mode for extra immersion.
It probably is your aspect ratio though.

on an ultrawide monitor the black bars cut off like half of the scene, only on cutscenes but it looks terrible. Should of taken lessons from TLOU pc port and let us turn off the black bars

its false advertising that this game "fully" supports ultra wide

Fully agree, also never been a fan of black bars no matter what the screen, just on a regular size 16:9 its easier to get used to. The whole point of cinematic bars is to simulate a 21:9 apect ratio anyway so it really doesnt make sense on actual 21:9 monitors.

Red Dead Redemption 2 does it as well and theres a mod to get rid of it so im sure the same will be done for this game

I wish games that had cutscenes like this would actually render the cutscenes in 21:9 instead of just rendering black bar on top of the 16:9 image. On a 21:9 monitor in Ghost of Tsushima the image now gets extended horizontally but also still has the black bars above and below.

The original cutscenes are already 21:9, just let them fill the screen.

At least with the way they implemented it here they aren't cutting any of the original frame off, but it just looks bad this way with the black bars and the pre-rendered cutscenes have black bars on all sides... Can't wait for mods to roll out.

For everyone interested:

If you're on Ultrawide, make sure to disable FOV compensation in the .ini
All the credits go to Lyall for making the mod and to the GoT mod making community on Discord for letting me know.
