Report a translation problem
I was having the same issue, no horse hoof beats, dialogue missing most of the time, was acting like there was a missing channel. Headphones worked fine but desk speakers were broken. Tried updating drivers from Mobo site, still broken.
My fix was going into windows sound settings and disabling audio enhancements AND turning on spatial sound for that particular device.
Hopefully I am not the only one that this worked for.
I use a 7.1 receiver setup and what helped for me was to change the speaker settings in the game menu from "Home Theater" to something Bookshelf something. Can't remember.
