Do bosses become damage sponges on Lethal?
Wondering what difficulty should I try this game on.

Lethal sounds fun but I read on reddit that lethal makes enemies very annoying as they can kill you in 1 hit but it takes so many hits to kill them. But that thread is quite old now. Is this true?

Yes it gets frustrating. Some of the duels arent bad and I beat them first try. but some of them are very.... unsatisfying. they sometimes have chains of 2 or 3 unblockable attacks BACK to BACK, theres no way to be prepared for that unless you know its coming. so you basically get 1-hit by the 1 or 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attacks the boss can do enough times until you learn to dodge it. usually 2 or 3 attempts at least. sometimes you get lucky and they randomly don't use it once and its an easy fight. its doesn't really feel fair, so even when you beat them, its not satisfying, you're just relieved that its over. luckily many of the duel bosses share the moves so once youve fought enough duels it becomes easier since you know the patterns kind of.

in my opinion lethal is still worth it. its very fun over all. the duels, and regular combat before you have 3 resolve + revive, are the sore spots for the difficulty. anytime you can use kunai or sticky bombs its very easy its still kind of a joke. you basically have to nerf yourself to play cool because even on lethal its easy to optimize the fun out of the challenging combat

the charm of mizu-no-kami also really helps with duels

It depends. If you upgrade your weapon then it's not. But starting game on lethal could be a big pain because there is little room for mistake and you could be one-shotted in the beginning. I would say if you starting game go with normal/hard (hard has lot of sponge enemies but good for learning) and later change lethal. If you passed the beginning and understand mechanics then you could just switch to lethal and if you don't like it switch it back. You could change difficulty even during boss fight so just try it yourself

The perfect difficulty is hard

I like lethal because it gives me a reason to switch between my gear sets and charms depending on what type of fight I go into. Since you can die pretty quickly and the enemies are a bit tougher (though not as tough as the COOP enemies) You gotta formulate how to go about a fight rather than just charging into every one

It's the opposite, enemies go down quicker on lethal than hard, though not as fast as you do.

I haven't tried Lethal, but I did choose hard for my first playthrough. I think it was a good choice. I have always had to make sure I was prepared for fights. It was not just a walk in the park, but also was not frustratingly difficult.

I basically drop down to hard during bosses so I don't spend the next hour pressing space to retry lmao

Lethal if you do not mind being Stealthy, switching builds, and using bow and all utilities. Hard is my go-to on first playthrough because you can brute-force Samurai Only (walking through the front door) without too many restarts and it makes the second playthrough on Lethal more entertaining and not just the same run, but you can always downgrade so I suggest starting high early on before fights become more complicated.

lethal makes EVERYTHING more deadly. that includes yourself.

I'm playing on hard with isn't insane (basic walkaround battles are pretty easy) but it's also not a cakewalk (bosses can take a couple tries.) Def the most fun setting.

Only the duels ....the only way to win them is to do your obsolete best by learning the enemy's pattern which is challenging but so fulfilling

The only real damage sponge on Lethal is the Eagle (Iki dlc), that's just super ridiculous even with maxed Katana. lol
