Steam input control setup broken for this game
The "fire" command which is responsible for mounting your horse, interacting with items/people changing stances and shooting ranged weapons seems to just not be working on steam input custom controller setups the for last 3 days.
Anyone know where that should be reported in hopes of getting it fixed would hate to have to turn off steam input and play default after 50 hours of getting used to the other button layout

Exact same problem here. It was working fine for more than a week but the interact button just stopped working once i started playing again today (after a handful of days of not playing)

Even using community preset controls don’t seem to fix the issue

Glad to see it isn't just on my end. Just picked up the game and tried out some custom controls, but they all seemed to be broken.

I got interact ("Fire") button working after hours of trial and error.

Here's all the background info for my case:
  • I use Xbox controller
  • Here's the affected controls I wanted to restore:
    Y--> Fire (Interact)
    RB--> Quick attack
    RT--> Heavy attack
    LT--> Aim and shoot after long press (had to change it to LT aim + RT shoot and idm really)

How I fixed it:
  • Kept Y as "Fire"

  • Kept LT on the "Aim" mode and kept the full and soft pull commands empty (Going forward, all other trigger options will also keep these empty unless stated otherwise.)

  • Created a mode shift on LT that was set on the mode "Fire" and the Mode Shift Button set onto "Y" (This was the main breakthrough change that fixed the problem for me, but the following steps removed many interfering problems. Also, fyi Mode Shift Button is found after pressing the settings button for the Mode Shift)

  • Kept RT on the "Trigger" mode with the Full Pull set to "Heavy Attack"

  • Created a mode shift on RT that was set on the mode "Fire" with the Mode Shift Button set on "LT Full Pull" (to shoot the arrow using RT while LT is being full pulled for aiming)

I bet there's still many annoying things I'm yet to find about my "fix", but for now it all seems to work. You might have to come up with your own trial and error mode shifts or try mix and match some of my steps for your problem to be solved, but, I hope this helps somehow.

Good stuff, bit of a screw around but it works. Only issue so far is i use RT for shooting and switching to fire arrows ect but doing a soft pull on the LT allows me to change them still so should be golden.
