How to use Guiding Wind on an Xbox controller?

The guiding wind mechanic uses the Playstations track pad by swiping up. There is no mention of how to use it in the controls in the control options in the menu.

The game shows you how during gameplay, but I was using a Playstation controller when the game organically shows you how to do this. I've since switched to using an xbox controller.
