Flickering Lights and Black Squares – Tried Everything, Need Help
Hey everyone,

I’ve been running into a really frustrating issue with Ghost of Tsushima on PC — the lights are constantly flickering and I’m seeing weird black squares popping up during gameplay.

I’ve already tried every possible fix I could think of: Admin mode, Compatibility mode, Frame generation on/off, DLSS on/off, Tweaked in-game settings in every way imaginable. Still no luck.

I’ve also searched through Reddit and other forums but couldn’t find a solution that worked for me.

Here’s a link to a recording showing exactly what’s going on: https://mega.nz/folder/mNBF3L7b#Gn1rceofw5iXaHYh-gc4tg

My hardware setup:

GPU: ASUS RTX 5070
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

Has anyone else experienced this? Or maybe someone has an idea what might be causing it or how to fix it?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

I have the exact same issue. It started happening after I changed GPUs from RTX 3080ti to 5090. My CPU is Ryzen 9 5950X. The other change is that I updated the Nvidia driver.

My new GPU doesn't have any issues in other games nor any other issue in Ghost of Tsushima.

Given that I couldn't find anything online apart from this thread and I have a similar setup with the original poster, it seems as either an RTX 50 series issue or a driver issue.

I also installed the latest Nvidia driver and even updated the AMD Chipset driver. But still no solution.

I found a feedback thread for RTX 50 series, from Nvidia recognizing this bug: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/563010/geforce-grd-57602-feedback-thread-released-41625/3524490/

At open issues you can find the entry:

Flickering/corruption around light sources in Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut [5138067]

Therefore I guess we have to wait.
I just bought this game, and suffered this light flickering issue for two hours couldn't fix it, mine is 5070ti, I guess maybe most of the RTX 50 series has this problem.
Same problem(
Today buy 5070ti and see this bug

The driver hotfix 576.15 did not fix this issue despite mentioning it in the changelog. (The changelog didn't mention Tsushima specifically so maybe it was fixed for other games).
I got this too on a 5080. I had similar issues before due to a defective 13th gen intel cpu. Was worried I'd have to RMA again. Really hoping pug is wrong and that the hotfix fixes the issue.
May I suggest something totally different? The reason is from Jaytwocents and Nexus Gamers.

Since you all have to wait for a response from Sucker Punch (which I think is unlikely in the near future). Try this. Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller download from official website). Run it in Safemode. This will remover EVERY traces of your existing installed GPU driver (including temp folders). Reboot when finished. Then install ver 566.36 of NVidia Driver (Dec 24) when Windows is up. By the way, you may have to uninstall your existing NVidia App. As I found out myself that it didn't function at all. But reinstall the NVidia App and it will run.
This older version seems to be the most stable one. So, use this version until NVidia fixes their driver issue.

Good luck and have fun :)
Issue introduced in driver 576.02.

The bug is not fixed with the hotfix driver 576.15 so don't bother.

The issue has been acknowledged by NVIDIA, see here : https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/563010/geforce-grd-57602-feedback-thread-released-41625/
