PC Crash
Every time I try to start a new game of Ghosts of Tsushima my PC crashes. It doesn't blue screen, it just shuts down. I assumed it was a GPU temp issue, but upon running it my GPU temp doesn't get very high (> 75 C).

I would wonder if it's a CPU temp issue, but I cannot readily check CPU temps.

Though it is also specifically only happening with this game.

I have the most recent version of the nvidia driver

My specs are:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core processor, 4200 MHz
NVIDIA Geforce 3070
32 Gigs of RAM

Does anyone have a fix for this? I disabled steam Overlay, and the settings I use are:

Exclusive Fullscreen
Upscale method off
1920x1080
TAA Anti aliasing
NVIDIA
60 hz refresh rate
vsync off

To the OP, don't think there's really a fix for us, tried everything I could find on several forum threads, the only thing that made the game run slightly longer before crashing (not the entire PC but just to desktop at least) was turning off AA. I've had several crashes to desktop which I didn't mind too much before the whole PC crashes started happening. Don't think it's worth the trouble of trying to fix yourself, I'd probably just wait until they either patch it or just move onto a different game altogether.

I've tried once more on the lowest settings possible (everything on very low)

My PC instantly crashes during the compiling shaders phase.

I do notice my CPU goes to 100%, but that seems very bizarre.. I get it's an intensive game, but just compiling shaders on my PC is enough to crash it?

I had assume turning vsync on would fix the issue, it seemed like it did

I got to 100% compiled shaders and then pc shut down x.x

I really wanna play this game but cant find any fixes q.q

Games dont shut down PCs. You have a issue, likely hardware, likely PSU.

I'm curious why it is exclusively with this game though.. I can play more intensive video games without any trouble..

I can play cyberpunk 2077 with raytracing and high graphics, wouldn't that surely have a higher power draw than the start of Ghosts of Tsushima on the lowest settings?

I /do/ know, at least that games can shut down PCs in the event the CPU or GPU overheat, once those parts get above a safe temperature they tend to immediately shut the system down without a BSOD.

It may be a PSU issue.. I'll have to look into it

try to enable vsync.
maybe theres a way in launch settings.

have you clicked on random settings? My launch settings are '' Fullscreen'', not exclusive fullscreen.

leave stuff default vs Vsync On.

Regular fullscreen default crashes, vsync on also crashes

This is incredibly strange to me..

My drivers and BIOS are updated, the game files are validated.. Theoretically Cyberpunk with raytracing enabled should have more power draw than Ghosts of Thushima on the lowest settiings..

PSU may be the issue, but I don't know.. CPU temp may be an issue too, but with vsync / nvidia forcing a frame limit, CPU shouldn't get THAT hot

I have underclocked my GPU to 42% power maximum and still experience crashing upon reaching 100% Compiled shaders & lowest settings

what about your ''Controlled Folder Access''?
''Protected Folders''?
some Malwarebytes antivirus

those were causing some stuff too before.

Irrelevant that it "only happens in this game". Man, the number of people and number of times " it only happens in this game" is said lol.

It shouldnt happen at all, ever. This game scratches the right itch to show an issue.

Poor choice of words. Games dont cause overheating. Inadequate cooling does.
You're really really off base. If this game actually cased PCs to crash it would have been in the news, and fixed, ages ago.
If I had to guess, going off your entire PC just shutting down, it's a power issue either at the wall, or your power supply. If it was memory or CPU instability, you'd blue screen and have something in event viewer to go off.
It could be CPU overheating as well. if that's the case your cooler is not mounted correctly or is inadequate for the job.

I'd agree with what was said above.
Skye, have you got your PC plugged into an extension lead or straight into the wall socket?
I had a similar problem with Cyberpunk 2077 drawing too much power. The game kept crashing after less than 20 mins of play.
Plugging my PC into the main wall power socket and not into an extension lead seemed to fix it. And, also, having a clean re-install of your game could help.
And as mentioned, cooling is important. Make sure your hard drive or SSD isn't getting too hot as well as the rest of your PC components.

I have it plugged straight into the wall socket tbh

but a few months ago there were people complaining abut the game crashing their PC

https://www.reddit.com/r/ghostoftsushima/comments/1cxbd9v/ghost_of_tsushima_crashes_pc/

but what's the deal with the power draw when I'm reducing my Nvidia GPU to 42% power and still getting pc shut downs?

If it's a power draw issue and I undervolt my GPU and CPU to use half the power and it still crashes at SPECIFICALLY 100% shaders compiled is it a PSU issue?
