Parry inconsistency?
I've had trouble with the parry consistency for most of the game (got through bottom island, DLC, and half of top island on Hard difficulty), and there seems to be little real information whether or not my experience is intended or not. I'm very aware of the dodge indicator etc., but sometimes it seems Jin is just standing there, doing nothing. Is EVERY attack not marked with a red X REALLY supposed to be parryable?

For example, (I've had multiple frustrating moments, but) what finally prompted me to write and ask - the Ronin combo, where they attack three or four times consecutively. No red crosses, just a blue one at the end. I keep pressing parry at various times, but I get comboed the vast majority of times. Are those parryable? Maybe it's my side mouse button bind? I'm not sure.

From my personal experience and testing in the arena on the DLC island it feels like it's a little bit of two things sometimes Jin just stands there like a plank and gets hit (more so on the dodge, if you dont push a direction jin wont move and takes the hit) Also the red/blue shine is premature and can throw off the ACTUAL time to parry/dodge and sometimes cant see to time it because of the blue/red shine, sometimes during a combo of blue/red hit's if you don't perfect one of them your getting hit.
You're not alone in dealing with this jank and most duals just feel bad, like I'm just smashing my head against them until Jin decides to do the parry/dodge and so I can progress the game.
To answer your question about he blue hits yes these are parryable but you really need to perfect parry one them to stop the combo.

sometimes you can get distracted by the color, and not look at the actual weapon swinging, and then you miss your parry. you overcome it with practice, but it's a thing.

It's finicky. Parry I don't really have issues with but dodging, especially perfect dodging... well that's a different story.
