Exclusive Full Screen is Bugged
If you have your game set to "Exclusive Full Screen", turn it off before launching the game otherwise you will be stuck in an endless loop of your monitors flickering off/on while your computer is trying to switch to the game. For reference I have the latest NVIDIA driver, verified integrity of files on steam, and have a dual monitor set up.

No one seems to be posting about this, so maybe I have some unique combination of factors contributing to this issue, but once I switch to "Fullscreen", the problem stops occurring...though now I am experiencing screen tearing where I was not before.

If anyone has any insight into the "Exclusive Full Screen" issue, feel free to reply.

I use it. No issues.

I don't have this problem and have 2 screens running 4080 super latest drivers.

Can you alt tab? Because some how for me in exclusive fullscreen is broken. Screen flickers.

DirectX 12 doesn't actually have a exclusive Full Screen mode, any dx12 games that have the option are faking the mode

I don't run useless programs in the background so why on earth would I? When I'm gaming I don't run crap like discord and Chrome in the background and neither should you

you can try this nvidia reg. fix:

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157

This helps for flickering in The Evil Within.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Alt tab doesn't fix or cause the problem for me. It's bizarre. The whole game starts chugging with the flickering. I have to alt+f4 the game to make the flickering stop. Otherwise I can alt tab in and out of the game no problem when not in fullscreen exclusive.

I have dual monitors and I also don't have this issue. There must be something you're running that's interfering and fighting for exclusivity of the screen.

I suggest disabling as many background apps as you can, doing a clean boot disabling all non Microsoft services (in Windows: CTRL+R, type: msconfig, services tab, disable all non Microsoft services)

Reboot and try again.

Nope. No issue here.

I have the same issue, black screen while you can hear the game audio

Turn off exclusive full screen mode and then it works fine

Wondering if it's because I have an older GPU
RTX 2070 super 8GB

Recently got one of the new ultrawide monitors and that pushed me towards a new GPU so I'll be trying a new RX 7900 XTX 24GB and hopefully that will let me use it as well as get the most out of the new screen

You really should only be using borderless windowed in games nowadays, games will work just the same performance-wise as GPU's/Windows are just very good at handling it, so no need to make the screen flicker every time you want to look something up online while playing a game. Also, being able to watch another stream on the secondary monitor while gaming is just pure bliss...

You can downvote this comment all you want, but I would stay away from anything AMD in regards to CPU/GPU, as they blow for gaming. You've been warned, no whining on here once you get it and your performance is crap and/or you crash constantly.

I mean that just hasn't been the case for years. Every since Zen came out Intel and AMD have been traded places for best gaming CPUs and AMDs GPUs have had a better raster performance at a price point over nVidia since the RX series

"....at a price point". Yeah, okay.

AMD blows Intel away on the cpu front, but in absolute terms, Nvidia's gpu's are better, and the software-side of things only increases the gulf between the two.

If you don't have the money, buy AMD. If you do, buy Nvidia.

This is the most cope comment I've seen of an Nvidia fan boy lmao, if you think AMD still has driver problems you're probably living in the past. The real comment should be:

"If you value your money, buy AMD. If you want the best buy Nvidia, if you want an apple product, buy Nvidia"
