unblockabale attack indicators are a joke
the game has red flashing lights whenever an attack is incoming you cannot block or parry (unless you have the specific perks where you can parry unparryable attacks)

but i found that the indicators only work reliably on the first type of mongols/enemies you encounter. if the game teaches me to dodge when the light flashes red, then why in the ever living ♥♥♥♥ do i get hit anyways if i dodge just a little too early. it feels like i am actively being punished for having a good reaction time, especially against the later axe helicopter brutes and anything that seems to have a rather long attack windup. am i not supposed to dodge when the light flashes red? i understand the incentive that the later you dodge or block the better, because it can lead to counter attacks, but even that timing is off, as if the game either has input lag or just nonsensical timing.

The red indicator just shows an unblockable attack in general, not the time frame, when to dodge. Same with the parry indicator. Dodge/parry shortly before you get hit.

Some of the attacks seem to have active frames. IE even if you dodge after the dodge timing window expires if you're still in the way if the attack it will hit you.

For the axe ballerinas for example I found that unless the dodge lands me slightly behind them I will get hit regardless.

Meanwhile spears are quite easy to dodge regardless of early timing because unless you are dodging directly into/away from them you will sidestep their attack.

Reacting to enemy's weapon position in general is better than reacting to light cues.

red light is not about timing, it is about the type of attack...

As others have said, red flash only indicates and unblockable attack, the timing depends on the attack animation...

Are they? Youi have a dodge button for a reason, use it. A well timed dodge will do the sams as a well timed parry.

dodging doesn't have the "sams" effect as parrying, "youi" clearly didn't play the game, please stop pretending

It does when you level stuff up, pefect dodge leads to a lethal attack.

Turn off the HUD in settings and don't let yourself get confused, just focus on what the enemy does!

it's just indicated that this attack can't be blocked, it doesn't have anything to do with the timing, you're not being punished for having a good reaction time, you just missed the timing, lol.

Most if not all enemies are right handed, roll towards their right arm and you will almost always avoid a hit, it's the same in Dark Souls. And if they are left handed, roll to their left arm.
