Purpose of artifacts?

I've read that there are 50 Mongol artifacts and that collecting 20 of them will give you the "Know Your Enemy" trophy. But as far as I know, that trophy doesn't have any practical value. So why the hell would I collect the artifacts if all they do is provide me a trophy that's just nice to look at but doesn't do anything else for me?

Am I mistaken? Is there any practical purpose to collect the artifacts?

No, they dont have practical value. Just collectables.

just collectables but do give a little detail on the Mongols if that is of interest to you but stuff like the artifacts, records and flags can be safely ignored if you don't care about anything that doesn't effect gameplay
