Fixed the brightness of dark areas
Go to Windows Key + R and type regedit.

Navigate to the following path:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sucker Punch Productions\Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT\Graphics

Find the NormalizedGammaDecodingPower entry, which is set to 500 by default.

Change the value to 1000.

It seems that this adjustment affects in-game brightness differently than the in-game brightness settings.

The screenshots below show the difference between 1000, 500 (default), and 500 (default) with in-game brightness set to 100.

As you can see, this change increases the brightness of dark areas while maintaining a relatively good contrast. The default setting was too dark, but this adjustment makes it better.

I respect your opinion. However, the default setting's shadow representation is so dark that I can't see anything, so I prefer the adjusted values. Since it doesn't significantly compromise the contrast and doesn't look washed out, I'm personally very satisfied with it.

Thanks for this! There's also a setting in there to remove film grain and sharpening which is handy too,

Good solution for dark areas and night scenes, but day picture and bright colors get washed out a bit (tried this with HDR mod only). Thanks anyway

If you're running the game in HDR, try running the windows HDR calibration tool first (you can find it on the windows store). Helped fix the game being too dark for me (without making the game too washed out). Supposedly the original PS4 release was dependent on proper HDR calibration in order to provide accurate blacks and dark areas.

Thanks, worked like a charm. Now the interiors of houses aren't just black holes anymore.

Nice. The switch to 1000 is definitely an improvement. I left the in-game settings at default, though. Increasing in-game brightness made things way too washed out.
