Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Laptop
I’m looking at buying this laptop (below) so that my son can play two games we have purchased, Spore and TABS. All of our devices won’t run STEAM games. We have iPhones, iPads, Chromebook and the PC doesn’t work either. Uses Linux, but it’s so slow/doesn’t have the right 3D graphics he can’t play.

Can anyone tell me if this laptop below will run STEAM games? If not, what device works?

n4000 is a x86-64 processor but very weak one... with very weak on-chip gpu compared to a recent-gen intel i3 or amd apu for example

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/br/pt/ark/products/128988/intel-celeron-n4000-processor-4m-cache-up-to-2-60-ghz.html

32GB of storage space will be eaten all up by windows so not much room left for installing games

4GB ram leaves little for games too, it's the bare minimal for win10 but you'll want 8gb... even for linux it may limit your gaming

SPORE minimal specs are pretty low for windows, but you'll be running Steam and using Proton to run it since there is no linux native version, which means you need better specs to run it:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/17390/SPORE/?l=portuguese

n4000 is a dualcore 1,1GHz (2,6GHz burst) processor while minimal requirements for Spore is a singlecore 2,6GHz or a dualcore 1,8GHz, so probably not enough...

Also it uses DirectX 9, which until very recently had quite poor performance on Wine and Proton... now it *might* work better due to D9VK being integrated into Proton (still experimental so needs to be activated for each game on purpose)
If you want your kids laptop to take advantage of Proton/DXVK, you're going to need a GPU that fully supports Vulkan.
For AMD that's gonna be the R9 series, the Rx 400 and RX 500 series and the Rx Vega Series.
For Nvidia that's the Geforce 600 Series and up.
For Intel, you'll want 6000 series an up; the 3000 series and up only supports 1.0 and will not play many games via DXVK.

N4000 is the cpu model number not the gpu series, it actually has a UHD600 gpu, so not sure this observation about only having Vulkan 1.0 applies to it...
