Feral Gamemode awareness
Hi,

I have this idea/suggestion for Steam client on linux..

Since some linux distros are shipping pre-installed Feral Gamemode (like Ubuntu 20.04) my suggestion is to make Steam linux client aware of installed Gamemode and enable it automatically when user have launched a game. It could be done by appending silently launch option "gamemoderun %command%" to game when is launched. After exiting a game it should also disable gamemode. This is propably not something dificult to implement, since Steam client is already tracking if game is running or not what is visible also in library.

ideally: with steam config option to use it globally + option to force-enable/disable it per game in each games properties

that way notebook players can opt-in or opt-out easilly to handle battery power consumption and overheating issues as they see fit and change this at will quickly

ps: this is just a users forum... if you want the idea to get to Valve devs for real:
1) go to their steam-for-linux github page
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues
2) look for already open feature requests (in the issues section) that match yours
3a) if there is none, then open a new one
3b) if there already is one, then add any extra info you think is relevant

important: that is a work tool for the devs, not a forum or social network, so be accurate, polite, concise... and don't expect quick replies, as they're usually overwhelmed (only so few of them actually work on the linux client specifically)

edit:

I found these that seem pertinent
