Linux mint graphics card problems...
Attempting to play ANY game, left 4 dead 2, league of legends, etc. I get the same problem with the entire display. I can only see health bars and outlines/models of a few things.
I just recently installed linux on my computer and attempted to download and play multiple games yet they do not display properly.

My system:
Processor: Intel Pentium CPU B950 @ 2.10GHz x 2
RAM: 4gigs
Graphics card: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

I need help attempting to fix this. Any help is appreciated!

Your problem is most likely the result of missing S3TC (texture compression) libraries.
You can install them by running this in terminal:

sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386

Reboot and launch any affected game. If this does not solve the problem then try launching steam with the S3TC extension forced; by running this in terminal:

force_s3tc_enable=true steam

Then, go into game launch options for a game you want to play and add this:

force_s3tc_enable=true

Launch the game.

Disabling "Steam Community In-Game" (aka the steam overlay) may also be necessary.

The game should now render properly. Just add the launch argument to your other games and remember to launch steam with the above command.

Same system, same problem. This worked a treat, thanks!
Seeing as how this has been of particular help to users, maybe the mods could change the title and sticky it?
