[SOLVED] Steam error with OpenGL
When I start Steam, I get the following error:

OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems. For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457.

Besides, I bought The Witcher 2, I click in the play button, it opens the laucher, I click on "Lauch Game", the laucher disappears and nothing happens.... (I know I had to publish this in another ~discussion place~, but I took the post for both problems).

My configuration:
Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 64-bits
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
2GB of RAM (yeah, I know)
Intel Core 2 Duo

I've searched a solution for both, but found nothing. Can some one help me with them?

[SOLUTION]:

sudo apt-get install mesa-utils

Just that fix both problems.

Put this into a script or just directly into the terminal:
rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 \ ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 \ ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 \ ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 \ ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1

Repeat after Steam updates if the error message comes back.

You should be able to run loads of games with 2GB. The Witcher 2 isn't among them, but I think it wouldn't run good (on any OS) with this graphics card either.

About the problem: Which drivers do you have installed? Do you use a 64 bit system? If so, did you install the 32 bit drivers as well?

I can hardly believe that. OP, please buy 2 Gigs and find out. ;)

Oops, you're right.

Hey, I solved both problems, my friend told me to install meta-utils and it solved...
And yes, with 2GB I can play The Witcher 2.. requirements say 4GB because it was never tested with 2GB, there is a note that say that (acctually, it's not there anymore, but I saw it once).... Besides, for windows it is 2GB, and Linux should run it better....

Cool! How good does it run?

Why should Linux run a Windows game better than Windows? The Linux version of TW2 sucks because they used a wrapper, people have gotten better performance with their own WINE configs. I think the 4GB requirement is because they knew the port was bad and they wanted people to have extra resources to compensate.

Actually some games run better in some linux distro... and yes, some games run better on windows because wasn't made initially for linux, bad ported and those stuff, I said that because linux it's lighter, etc. But it depends on the game.
