get ppapurge and or ppa manager to purge the 310.19 ppa, and return to original packages.

I don't have got your game, maybe you should report the issues to nvidia. TF2 and SS3 (publicbeta) runs with 310.19

One thing is to run....another is to run as good, better or worse....as for ROOST4145, it runs WORSE.

On openSUSE I had no problems at all using manual install of 310.19.
On Ubuntu is buggy as hell. Might be the kernel but I don't know. Also tested manual install in 12.10 (kernel 3.5) and it's buggy yet.

Is there a way to update from 310.14 to .19 without manual install?

So was that the issue that resolved your "no sound" problem in OpenSUSE?
Yes. There's a very easy way to get the sound to work. But unfortunatelly you gotta type that pulse steam command. My problem with openSUSE is that you need to type 50 commands to get 1 thing installed, for example Skype. Ubuntu is a very-easy OS and automatically does anything I nedd, so I'm sticking to Ubuntu for the moment.

So, help Nvidia that they know it. Write them a bugreport.

Hey thanks Junior, that's good to know. How did you install the 310.19 drivers, did you do the "hard way" way?
It's simple. If I recall I do this way:

I install the 304.64 the easy way (http://opensuse-community.org/nvidia.ymp). Then, I download the 310.19 from nvidia.com, press CTRL+ALT+F1 (to get into tty1 mode), and type these commands (after login in):

su (login as root. if you don't have a root password yet just type "sudo passwd" and type the password you'd like to be the root password)
service xdm stop (I use KDE, so gnome must be another command like -> service lightdm stop, IF I recall, so look that up)
cd Downloads (remember to type the location of the downloaded driver)
sh N (then press TAB, it should auto-type the driver name = NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64 etc etc)

The install will probably say "the nouveau driver is in use" and it's gonna try to rewrite it. Say YES, and after the installation is failed you reboot your computer (that's why the re-write is for, to disable the nouveau driver)

Do the same process again, but now the driver will install normally.

If you have time to wait I'll do one last test on openSUSE, so you should be seeing a tutorial on how to install Steam+Nvidia drivers+get the audio working in about 4hours.

Thanks Junior, I'm not in a big hurry, and the whole "installing the hard way" (methods from the OpenSUSE blog) will take me awhile to wrap around my head. My main concern is that there is a suitable kernel mod when the kernel gets updated.

I'll look forward to reading your guide!

The "hard" way is acutally very easy. See:

Install the easy way driver
Reboot your machine
CTRL+ALT+F1
su
service xdm stop
cd Downloads
sh NVIDIAxxxxx (driver name)

Go accepting everything, then reboot after instalation fails

CTRL+ALT+F1
su
cd Downloads
sh NVIDIAxxxxx (driver name)

Install (just go clicking yes, I don't think there's gonna be any problem, but anyway read everything)

After install, reboot.

There you go, 310.19 installed. That's the way I do.

On the other hand, the audio thing, I'll have to install the system. So anyway I'll do a tutorial (a complete one, not one like this LOL) and post it here. It'll be like 200 lines I guess, so everybody should read all steps to do things right, plus I'll be posting images as well, to make things easier.

What's the easy way driver? You mean the "easylife" thingy?
The 310.19 drivers are in arch's repos and I haven't had any issues with them with a GTX 670. /shrug
