Steam for Linux

If running under KDE, keep an eye on the size of .xsession-errors
If anyone else is ignoring the fact it's not officially supported and running Steam for Linux under KDE, you might want to keep an eye on .xsession-errors. For me Steam appears to be bombarding kwin with window management requests whenever it doesn't have focus, which in turn causes kwin to fill that log file with messages - over a gigabyte so far.

I wouldn't be surprised to find it's spamming requests under Unity too and it's just no-one's noticed there because it doesn't have any visible effects.

In LUBUNTU it's only 5.6KB .

Yes, you read right , KILOBYTES :D

Mine is 768K, with KDE
Mines 700 kb, KDE 4.9.2
mines only 40 kb. Running Arch + KDE.
75MB here Kubuntu 12.10 KDE 4.9.3

Tons of these:
QPainter::begin Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 2 QPainter::setCompositionMode Painter not active QPainter::end Painter not active, aborted

Repeated over and over and over....
Arch64/KDE here, my .xsession-errors is 80kb, and nothing from Steam.
In the meantime you could delete the file and create a null symlink:
ln -s /dev/null ~/.xsession-errors

Eloquent. It's a big "F. You!" to error logging, but I like it.
