Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

[Suggestion] Add an option to move window managing buttons to the left.
It would be really appreciated since defaultly window managing buttons on Ubuntu are on the left. However, it is just a matter of taste, so it would be preffered to MAKE an option, so conservative users could stay with Windows-alike setting.

Honestly I'd prefer to let my native Window Manager control the Steam window like anything else.

I can force it (like this http://i.imgur.com/NYdNa.png) but it would be nice to have this as an official option.

Honestly i agree this too but i think it will Valve too much time to make and it will break Steam design and "many OS'es, one experience" motto.

At first with unity I was like ARGH.. WHO TF came up with this BS?!

Now I'm frustrated every time I'm on w7: left is the way to go, really.

But following linux philosophy, it should be left for WM
I'm opposite; I insist on right. Right makes more sense to me. From ubuntu 9 or so they moved it the left, and I always had to manually move it to the right. Every couple versions, the way to do it was different as well.

I raged.

That's because you are accustomed to them being on the right. Insisting on moving them back right away doesn't help either. You just don't do any meaningful stuff on the right of the screen. More often than not your pointer is on the left. Makes sense to have those buttons there.

It's human nature to resist change. Try the lefty-way for at least two weeks before you decide.

My point exactly. Why put those buttons near the rest? You only increase the risk of accidentally minimizing when you are trying to click something else. An application's controls are usually near the left. I like the controls that manage the window to be on the right.

Speak for yourself.

Steam should let the WM add native borders and buttons around it. Like any other decently behaving application.

Another vote for leaving it to the window manager.

Well I think the best way to request changes to steam at this point is to make it from the view of everyone, not just Linux users.

Right now they just want to fix bugs with Linux, they probably aren't as concerned about modifying the interface to be comfortable for us and risk breaking something else for the 98 or 99% of their other customers that don't use Linux. There is no way that is happening at this stage.

Honestly I think your best shot is to make this request on a different forum, and maybe say something like "mac users have the controls on the left side too" so it will get their interest and sound like a feature that "steam users" in general might be interested in, and not just "linux users"

TL;DR - make this option available for all OS'es?
