Global menu support
Will there be global menu support when on Unity?

Do you mean the top bar menu on the desktop when running most apps?
The global menu is the menu bar that is constantly displayed at the top of the screen in unity. The goal is that any application makes use of it, but many don't yet.

Gnome Shell also has a global menu. So it would have to support both. But since Valve is Ubuntu only atm. I don't think that will happen.

Global-Menu accesses to menu information through DBus. If Valve adds DBus support for Steam menu then every global-menu application (Unity, Shell extensions and other) will works.

it would definitely support everything that has a true global menu. (e.g. KDE)
