What Do You Use: Nouveau or NVIDIA's Proprietary Drivers?
Just wondering, what do you guys use: Nouveau or NVIDIA's drivers? I use NVIDIA's because I had some problems with nouveau and my GPU (550 Ti) when I first installed Ubuntu, and the NVIDIA drivers provided a quick and easy fix.

Nouveau is actually not too bad from what I've seen, but I use NVIDIA's drivers so I can be sure I'm harnessing the full power of the GPU (for games and what not) and they work well otherwise.

I use the NVIDIA Proprietary Driver. I wish that NVIDIA would use and develop Nouveau and just link their proprietary portion off in a binary in userland. I understand an approach like that would also help future proof some potential issues. I've heard this approach advocated by more knowledgeable individuals than myself on the subject and it sounds like a good idea.

I've always used the NVIDIA driver. If only I could make it work on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD....

I also use the proprietary drivers. This NVIDIA card is dated but the driver has never given me any problems.
I've found that Nouveau doesn't seem to play well with the 600 series and may not for a while. The desktop appears out of focus on my machine (in multiple distros). I have to install the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drivers to get proper image fidelity. They're awkward to install and the settings are limited, but I haven't experienced any issues yet.

I use the proprietary drivers.

I use ALWAYS the most recent NVIDIA PROPRIETARY drivers.
Now, do you use the "Additional Drivers" method, or do you go download them from their website?

Nouveau still sucks hard but it's getting better. If nVidia wasn't an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a company then a decent open source community based driver would have popped up years ago.

Nvidia proprietary. It sucks that they aren't open, but at least they're stable, fast and always support the latest kernel and X.Org releases. I hated my old ATi card, every xorg-server update or major kernel update would break them for months until Ubuntu needed the update.
Proprietary drivers. To be honest, I am often surprised by the hate Nvidia receives from the linux community, despite the fact that they're the only major graphics card company that actively maintains _good_ drivers for the platform. ATI's open source driver is a mess, from what I've read. Intel's Sandy Bridge HD 3000 graphics driver for Linux on my other laptop doesn't support OpenGL versions greater than 3.1 (version 3.3 is supposed to have some new functionality), and GLSL versions greater than 1.3(which means lack of vertex shading support for some games), DESPITE the hardware being able to support it. And it has been a few years since the hardware came out.

By "additional drivers" I assume you mean the driver available from the disto repo. I usually use the distro provided driver unless a driver release on the Nvidia website fixes some bug that I've been experiencing. Basically, I uses whichever driver works best irrespective of installation method.

I use the open source nouveau driver. It's very stable with my GPU. The 3D performance of the proprietary driver is much higher, though.
I've always used the NVIDIA proprietary drivers, downloaded and installed via their scripts, without any package manager intervention,
Always used proprietary drivers. Shame it's not open, but at least they provide decent drivers.
