Vote for GOG to add Linux versions of the games it sells
GOG, a digital distributor of computer games known for selling games without DRM and without regional pricing, had a makeover and one of the features this makeover introduced was a community wishlist where users get to submit suggestions for either games or website features and vote on these suggestions. One such request submitted by a user called JudasIscariot (a GOG employee) was to add Linux versions of games that GOG already sold for Windows to their catalog i.e. games like Wargame: European Escalation, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Psychonauts.

If a game has a Linux version and it is made and supported by the developer please allow the option to download the Linux version if at all possible.

It's taken a while, but the “Add Linux versions of games[www.gog.com]” request on the GOG Community Wishlist has surpassed 11 000 votes! This shows that there are gamers using Linux and that they are ravenous for support. With Linux seeing great support thanks to Kickstarter, the Humble Bundle, Desura, Steam, and others, it is only a matter of time before our votes reach the folks at GOG and they go through the simple task of adding Linux versions of the games they already sell for Windows. There's 31 000 users in this group. Let us give these requests a significant boost!

That is true, but it would make the future updater client more secure, plus improve the already great relationship that GOG has with its community.

True, but it doesn't hurt either....

I doubt they'd make GOG open-source, lest someone makes another GOG which is bad for business.

How are they going to do that if just the client side stuff is open?

I find it odd how all the attention so far has been aimed at the bonus content of this thread as opposed to the actual subject matter. I do hope the main request isn't being neglected!

The only problem with the main request for me is it requires a GOG account to vote for. Why would I have an account on GOG, if they don't sell Linux games?

But whatever, I'll probably make an account just to +1 that request haha

I've wondered for years why they don't bring their DOSBox library to Linux. They already use DOSBoxox on windows for all those old games since most wouldn't even work in XP, let alone would work on Vista/7/8

There are plenty of Linux related requests to +1 so it wouldn't be for just one request! Thanks in advance. :P

Basically I (we) see a big potential in Linux beyond the 1% . Currently Linux sales either just break even or yield a very small profit. But Rome wasn't built in a day.

We don't have a higher idealistic goal about freedom of choice - not more than it meaning that we'll reach a bigger audience.

In the end of the day Paradox makes hardcore games for smart gamers who want smart games - I think the average Linux user just happens to overlap with our niche business quite well.
Source. Wish GOG saw it that way as well.

Too bad the only game they have on offer for Linux is Crusader Kings 2 with no DLC. And their HIB offers up their entire 48 game catalog, but I'm not going to pay for anything thats not native. I'll pirate it and run it in that disgusting kludge Wine before I'll pay for it.

Not quite what I wanted to bring attention to by quoting that Paradox employee. Still, check how much Crusader Kings 2 is on Steam at the moment, then realise that it's still a darn good deal for Linux users. None of it has to go to Paradox, none of it has to go to the Humble Bundle. You can give it all to charity.

I know that, the HIB was the main source of new Linux games for like 3 years.
