How to do a clean reinstall?

After installing the deb file, starting the client, shutting it down,

sudo apt-get purge steam

,

rm -rf ~/.steam

,and reinstalling the client, the Steam client still knows my user name and password. How do I remove all trace of the package, to get a clean reinstall?

I've got stuff in ~/.local/share/Steam -- looks like a fair amount of stuff. Try a:

find ~ | grep steam

...there could be more directories.
