Steam for Linux

Big picture mode is VERY laggy.
Ubuntu 12.10 Unity 3D, nVidia 310.19/GTX550Ti, 2560x1600. Just installed Steam/Linux Beta a few minutes ago. Big picture mode is so laggy that it's close to unusable.

something like the B button is set up to the A button, and the B is the X button, i cannot chose community option, somehow you can just chose between the store and library options on the main screen. XBOX controller is a mess on BIG PICTURE.
Experiencing a lot lag with Big Picture mode also. It locks up briefly on startup and moving between menus is very unresponsive.

Linux Mint 13 Maya (64bit)
Kernel 3.2.0-23 generic (x86_64)
Cinnamon 1.6.7 desktop environment
NvIdia GTX 470 (304.64 drivers)
12gb RAM
Phenom II 1090T (3.2 mhz)

That I can confirm. When I controll it with my keyboard and the arrow keys i can't select community. But I can select it with the mouse.

Would be good if other whos have no performance issues with BPM post their system specs too.

For me works perfect, very smooth. Only takes time in the loads , I think is because it need download the images from games directly from internet before of start.

Linux Mint 14 (64bit)
MATE desktop environment
NvIdia GTX 560 (310 drivers)
4gb RAM
Intel Quad q6600 (OC 3.0 mhz)
works perfectly fine on my ubuntu 12.04, but it takes a very long time to load and exit (hd6850, amd fx6100, latest amd-driver from amd website).
On ubuntu 12.10 it is very laggy because of the open-source-driver.
I turned on 'Unredirect Fullscreen Windows' in CCSM (CCSM -> Composite), then I restarted. The intro video for Big Picture still lags and skips, but once it's started it's pretty smooth now.
- There's something very wrong with the scrolling for me: any drop-down menu or list keeps scrolling on its own. With the corresponding sound being played of course.
- Plus the sound is bad: it's crackling a lot.

also getting crackling sound, is anyone else getting buttons half covered up?

It's worth to mention that when big picture mode is turned on steam CPU usage raises up to 100%

I noticed that it uses SDL 2.0 library. I wonder if the problem is that it uses software rendering mode or something like that.

Yeah, community cant be selected for me either.
I have a slightly different problem:
Big Picture Mode performance is good and controls work as expected with my xbox 360 wireless controller after I remapped the buttons in the settings directly from Big Picture Mode.
BUT: As soon as I start Trine 2 from BPM, it lags so hard, it is unplayable. When started from steam not being in BPM, performance is just fine... does anyone else have this problem?

My specs:
Ubunut 12.10 64bit using stock Unity
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE
4GB of RAM
Geforce GTX 460 using nvidia-experimental-310 drivers

I'm still experiencing the same as szygi and Melo - Big Picture uses a ton of cpu, including _after_ a game is launched, meaning that the game appears to perform poorly, because it's fighting BP for resources.

Ubuntu 13.04 x86_64 using Unity
Macbook Pro with Nvidia GT650M (310.44)
Still lagging here as well. I noticed in the System menu that my graphics card is listed as LogMeIn Mirror Driver, so I suspect that maybe the system has defaulted to this and not my Radeon card for some reason, which is the cause of the lag. Anyone else in this boat that has a solution? It should be noted that all my games run perfectly, it's only the full screen Big Picture mode that is laggy (4-6 fps if I had to guess).
