Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Older games with Native Linux Ports?
Accept for all the older Valve games why aren't there more older Linux games on Steam?
I'd like to have the option to purchase games like: Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Quake 4, Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Unreal, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Serious Sam, Serious Sam 2. Is there any particular reason why native ports for these games have not been added to Steam?

id and Epic barely give a toss about Windows gaming, so you can see why they're not bothered about getting the Linux ports for their old games on Steam.
It's been said Serious Sam 1 & 2 are coming at some point.
Id and Epic barely give a toss about gaming, point. But I was hoping that Valve could atleast just persuade them to approve Linux versions on Steam, they themselves don't even need to do anything. Ryan has been keeping most of these games Linux installers & binaries up to date and with Sam & Ryan knowing each other so we'll for Sam to incorporate those installers & binaries into Steam will be a breeze. I'm also just thinking if Steam want to push Linux as a gaming platform this is a really quick & easy way to get 14 AAA games onto the platform.

Agreed I believe with things might change with Steambox's announce we'll see. It shouldn't be hard though seeing as how these ports already exist.
you can manually install some ID games on Linux provided you have the original game content. I am trying to find if there are any more AAA games with linux installers hiding out there.

Unreal Tournament 2004 has a installer here: http://www.liflg.org/?catid=6&gameid=17

Pretty sure I used that one, and I play UT2004 great on my system

It would be nice to see these games released on Steam for linux. They already work, and it would make it easier to download and play these games. There are some like ET:QW that have some issues, like no audio and font rendering issues that would be nice to see fixed though.

Thanks for the link. I bought the Unreal Anthology, then found Midway didn't include the Linux installers. UT2k4 was the only one I couldn't get running.
Many of the old ports are available through the Ubuntu Software Center now as well
descent 1 &2 also have native ports, not on steam but u can find them on GOG or at http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/ they should have ubuntu packages
