Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Distro tweaked for gaming
I never knew, one already existed.
But then found this on the openSUSE forums.

Fuduntu is going to switch from Ubuntu based to openSUSE based.
Their new name will be FuSE.

http://www.fuduntu.org/blog/2013/04/28/project-ends/

After monitoring project activity and traffic and also reviewing all of the feedback from the community concerning our EOL I have decided to end the project effective today. This means that beginning with our last merge from testing to stable which should happen today or tomorrow, there will be no additional updates to Fuduntu.

The majority of our user base has already moved on to other distributions, and the majority of Fuduntu team members have already moved to begin developing FuSE. By my calculations we have less than 2,500 users left, with those numbers continuing to drop by the day.

As the project ends, you will receive an update that disables the Fuduntu stable repository. This will allow those of you who have chosen to remain with the project after EOL to continue to do so without receiving error messages.

Thank you all for supporting our project over the years, may you all find a replacement distribution that you enjoy as much as you enjoyed Fuduntu.

FuSE is a new project that was started by several members of our team in the hopes to deliver a Fuduntu like experience using an openSUSE base.

What a horrible name to pick, fuse is a filesystem, a unix emulator, microsoft research lab, newsreader app etc etc etc.
Fuduntu was based on Fedora, not Ubuntu.

+1 for the branding fail
+1 for Fuduntu being based on Fedora

I really don't get it why we need yet another distro

I stand corrected.
The name confused me, but you are right.

Quote from one the guys who builds it:
Hey guys.

I'm one of the project leads for FuSE, and just wanted to clear up some misconceptions.

We never did try to "ubuntuize" the fedora core we were working from, the "Ubuntu" portion of the name was more to imply the ease of use and setup that Ubuntu brought to linux in general. (I don't personally like ubuntu, can't stand unity, but they do have a very nice out of box experience).

So, we won't be making any attempt to "ubuntuize" openSUSE. =]

Yes, we intend to track openSUSE Tumbleweed, as our existing current base is used to a rolling release model, and the dev team prefers rolling release.

We have *ZERO*, repeat *ZERO*, and again, repeated *ZERO* intention or desire to fork openSUSE.

So far, we've gotten nothing but positive response from various people within the openSUSE organization, and we fully intend to be committing back upstream, going forward. One of the things we will be doing (and I've already started on) is packaging the Consort desktop, developed by IkeyD of SolusOS, for those folks that prefer the classic Gnome2(gnome-panel) interface. This will be outside the "FuSE" project, and fully available and compatible with a vanilla openSUSE base distro.

We do have a few things that we are porting over from Fuduntu that will likely end up in Packman, rather than openSUSE, just due to guidelines based on licensing or whatnot, but we have no intention of breaking compatibility with upstream.

I really don't get it why we need yet another district.

Well it seems first suse needs to aprove to the name too.
And on the openSUSE forums a few also started about the name fuse already being used.

To which the guy answerd:

1) The team doesn't see the confusion. They're two different things.

2) FuSE pays homage to both where we came from "Fu"duntu and where we're going openSU"SE". Plus, for my own personal part, I just think it's a cool name.

He does not see the confusion, thats funny.
Fubuntu has been discontinued, for now. You might want to check out kanotix, which has steam pre-installed.

For now I am happy with openSUSE, but if they manage to build a tweaked one for gaming I will try it.

The only real issues I have are related to the amd drivers.
