But unless I missed something, there's not really anything in there for Linux users to get excited about is there?
http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Citizen
there's plans for Linux support. It also seems like some devs wants the effeciency of Linux, while moving to support Mantle, which is quite interresting.
Also the lead designer seems to dislike Microsoft (at least Direct X), and Apple, and consoles.
It's also really interresting to see some more "pc only" mentality. Oculus rift, Star Citizen, Valve games. If the trend keeps going, and "bare metal" API's delivers console effeciency on PC's, they may start gaining ground again :)
Well - the greatest hurdle to get things ported to Linux is the dependency on DirectX that many games have. This news item is one of several that show that era of DirectX in gaming is likely coming to an end. Indirectly - that is god news for Linux as it lowers the barriers of porting stuff to Linux.
Also: "[...] Steambox, a Mac or a PC running Linux [...]".That he mentioned Linux there is an indication that Linux is now at least a blip on the radar for game developers. Until last year it would have probably not appeared in that lIst.
That is good news for Linux then I think.
I'm still waiting for that announcement the developers of SC alluded to:
It will be good to see a game thats not dumbed down for people who cant, trying hard to play a game makes it a challenge with each milestone as dificult for you as the next person. So when you say i did this something that not many people have completed it will be epic.
Rant over.
