How to use wine to download and run windows games
So if I try to download it though winetricks it seems to freeze in the middle of it same if I download the MSI file and try to install via steam
if I try to run the windows exe it installs then theres no text no font nothing.
:/ thought this would be simple.

POL runs games better than just wine.

What's your distro? Where did you get wine? How did you install it? What version of wine are you using?

Get the latest version of wine here https://www.winehq.org/download/

Playonlinux may work better than Winetricks https://www.playonlinux.com/en/

Depending on your distribution there will be wikis or FAQs that will make it at least as easy cooking.

Wine is often not easy sadly. It is only the chance to get these executable files working that have not been written for Linux at all… for that it works astonishingly great.

Once you get the basics done some things may become easier. Good luck!

Although you are already using POL, Steam can easily be fixed in vanilla Wine by disabling dwrite.dll, either in winecfg (recommended) globally or specifically for Steam.exe, or by running Steam with the -no-dwrite option. In general, there are many programs that do not work out of the box with Wine, but can be fixed with some simple work-around(s). Therefore, it is always recommended to read the Wine AppDB page of the game or application first to check for any known issues and their solutions. POL makes this easier by doing the required tricks automatically, however, if you try to submit Wine bug reports, the developers may ignore them if you are not using the latest unpatched version of Wine.

ok one more thing I could ask is how do you get the directX install to work I can download and install openGL games just fine.
but the directX install gets frozen only tried it with dwarfs witch had a lot of reported problems so I'll try it on another directX game

If you mean Steam games that keep trying (unsuccessfully) to install DirectX when they are launched, like Skyrim, this is annoying, but is not a major problem if the game itself still works anyway. If the installer fails in a way that prevents the game from starting, you may have luck manually installing DirectX (using winetricks if necessary), or just deleting its installer. In any case, I recommend checking the Wine AppDB, since other people probably experienced the same issue, and may have posted a working solution.
