Steam for Linux

Anybody know why this is being spammed into the console output? Tried googling it but all I managed to find was a bunch of Arch users complaining about Steam crashing.

Steam is RUNNING, it's just spamming the ♥♥♥♥ out of that message in the background.

It's a warning. Not an error. Don't mind it.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I don't suppose there's a way to gag it?

It is not even a warning, just steam giving some insights about what it is doing at the moment.

It doesn't seem to affect Steam's operation, it just likes to print it repeatedly into the console.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Steam#Steam_runtime_issues

Seems to be the most common issue people have with Steam not launching.

If you're running Ubuntu, this more than likely isn't your problem. Steam is targeted at Ubuntu so it shouldn't have weird library issues like this with it.

Make a new thread about the issue you're having, paste your terminal output in there, then post a link here so I can find it. You'll get a lot more help that way.

i ran the commends on the page you linked me too just to see what would happen because what i have noticed from the other posts i had read is that steam needs a lot of 32bit libs so after running that commend i rebooted my laptop and when it switched on i double clicked steam and it opened.

SteamOS isn't based on Ubuntu, it's currently based on Debian 7 with a backported glibc with the next iteration in development based on Debian 8.
Ubuntu 15.04 is based on Debian Unstable and obviously has more recent versions.
