Could you link the page? I've been searching but couldn't find King's Quest 8...

Thank you both for the very rapid responses. I meant what some refer to as King's Quest Mask of Eternity MOE or Kings quest Quest 8.. (1998, not 2015). Yes, I agree with you concerning King's Quest 2015,, which some call simply, "Kings Quest" or Kings quest 9. It works very well out of the box and I have had no problems with it on Ubuntu 22.10 or Mint 21.1 with the steam install.

Has anyone had even partial success with King's Quest Mask of Eterniity (KQ8)?

I've tired to install it several times through the years on Linux, with different install files that I found online and by using an actual CD that I somehow still have. I remember the game being VERY buggy when it came out, and having to download several patches on 56k dial-up internet just to make it past the first area.
Unfortunately I was never able to get the game to run on modern hardware, and finding the patches from years ago has been even more difficult. I believe I still have some of the patch files, but they wouldn't install because they were unable to see that the base game was installed. I still have the game installed on my computer on Lutris, but running it only pops up with a small splash screen and an error saying the CD was not found (even when the original CD is in the drive)
The game is available for purchase on GOG as a bundle of Kings Quest 7 and 8. I'm not sure if that version has all the patches applied, but the comments seem to suggest that Kings Quest 8 might still be broken under Windows too...
