Install Kodi on SteamOS
Hi,

I tried to install Kodi on Steam OS. But I only get errors:

SteamOS is no good for a desktop PC, it's designed primarily to run on Steam hardware (does this still exist?) Anyway, if you're trying to do this on a PC then any other distro would be better. I have Kodi running great on Ubuntu 18.04

Those are classic "FrankenDebian" symptoms, which means that the packages don't actually match the release of the OS.

That kodi repo has apparently been broken for years:

yes, we've already established that changes in alchemist and definitely brewmaster broke it.
Since I still don't have a replacement for my steamOS hardware, there is nothing I can do.

Based on what Simic says, I think that the only viable solution would be to download from ubuntu packages the deb file for libgnutls, try to install it and check if that fix the deps problem.

Anyway, be very careful with this operation. This means: Always check that the package won't replace system wide libs or files and keep an eye on future SteamOS updates that could get in conflict with your foreign packages.

Installing external packages on SteamOS is not quite straightforward, its repos are limited and with a mix of old and backported packages, basically just what is needed for SteamOS itself.

I'd say that if you want more than what plain SteamOS has to offer, then SteamOS is not the distro you need, like others said try something else like Ubuntu.

There used to be a Kodi package for SteamOS: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/523898291499139752/
but I have no idea if is still maintained, you'd have to ask the maintainer (ProfessorKaos64)

Another option could be to add Debian repositories: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/648814396114274132/
and install Kodi from there or through snap, but again, ask the OP (Shark) if his post is updated.
