"Doesn't work" is very vague.
Are you getting no boot of your VM or are you simply getting very bad performance.
For decent performance you need to have Virtual Box run as a user in the Virtual Box group on the host (or similar authority) and have the extension modules/drivers installed on the guest.
Still, for Gaming grade VMs I really recommend using Linux as the host and using Kernel Virtual Machine.
There are three sufficient drivers, one is VirGL (OpenGL and Vulkan Relay), SR-IOV PCI-E routing (Having a dedicated GPU for each VM), SR-IOV GPU Splitting (Dividing the GPU into multiple GPUs for the purpose of virtualization.)
All three of these can render to either a buffer on the main screen or render to a dedicated screen for each VM. Likewise you can dynamically route input devices through an HID relay or through a USB relay
No no no no....I wanna use linux.
It does not boot at all.
I run the machine F12 installs.....then I restart then nothing. (With ubuntu)
With debian couldn't download the ISO.
With Apodio it says at very start: failed to run "X434something"
failed to run XL4220something"
"Doesn't work" is very vague.
Yes I don't know really what does not work. I am sorry. I am lost too.
Additionally you should check your configuration.
Finally, you should make sure you have all the dependencies properly installed. What OS are you trying to run it from?
As a note, the most common source of problems of it not running at all is not having your user set to have the appropriate virtual machine creation permissions. These are granted by setting your user to be in certain system groups.
However, I recommend using a KQemu setup instead (QEmu Assisted Kernel Virtual Machine.) The nice thing about KQemu is it will still run with insufficient authority, just at lower performance, emulating anything it has insufficient authority to access the VM hooks for.
Also I want to +1 that your problem isn't Steam nor Linux related, it seems to me like you have problems with the VirtualBox user interface.
Try reading or watching some tutorials on how to use VirtualBox.
Should go in one of the Community groups on Steam (there are several) instead of the main Steam for Linux group.
I also agree, the virtual box user interface is not very friendly. The attempts at being user friendly frequently go out of date and break so frequently they are useless, and they fail to give tangible errors or instructions on what to do when this happens.
I recommend against using the fully automated tools and instead do the semi-automatic tools instead, as they go out of date far less, and give far better information. I still recommend using the GUI, just the advanced one.
This of course means reading more documentation, but hey, what fun would it be if you didn't get to learn something.
Load in the defaults, then change out your ISO for one you downloaded yourself and adjust your settings to what you want.
W......indows.
You've got a problem with Linux users?
Signal me if you feel like it's needed.
Duh....Thank you I would've never ever thunk of it
I couldn't close it.......and promise i'll be kind.
What kind of solution do you expect for your initial post?
1) maybe his issue is better served in another forum, here is the link
2) can you explain your issue into a liiiitle more detail? or else it's impossible to help
eg:
Usually we assume people are trying to run Windows inside Linux, but honestly, I can't yet be sure what the host and guest OS are for him... posts are too vague about what he's trying to do, no clear description of error messages (or of the lack thereof), etc, etc... and
In fact, I'm not even sure he's being ironic or actually saying the issue is now solved...
It's obviously at least in part due to language barriers, but also a bit due to an apparent habit of using very short and loosely structured text... which is good for in-game chats but not so much for debugging.
Some folks just tried their best to guess at what might be going on, and maybe it was enough, lets just wait and see if OP says anythibg else...
I don't have any problem wIth english. What do you think you pommie? You think I can't align a bunch of sentences...i'm just not able to explain my issue because well I don't know wHat's being problematic. w
You think i'm oliver twisted? I'm not going to the bottlo to get some chardy.....did you think so?
Never had a wIndows update that ruins something functionnal.
Thunk is always used ironically......otherwise people say I would've never ever thought'
It's something I did before asking here....I know youtube tutorials are made for that.
I could'nt solve it sadly.
"I couldn't close it.......and promise i'll be kind."
About the person that tells me that a Linux forum isn't appropriate to talk about linux (?)w
Maybe it's not the place for....but I don't think I disturb and I didn't mean annoy linux users....I thought that a place about linux issues could be good enough for it
