Is Proton safe with VAC?

Hi, I'm new to gaming on Linux, and was wondering if proton has been known to trigger VAC bans. The reason I am asking this is because I'm not sure if proton might flag something.

I am currently on ubuntu running xcfe, and haven't installed any sort of malicious programs.

i dont know about VAC in all games but you can run CS:GO with Proton but the Vac System don't work with proton so you can't play on VAC servers.

VAC will let you play on Linux with Wine/proton. If the game devs uses battleye or EAC or some other ring0 anti-cheat it's a nogo atm. Some other game devs have inhouse AC and some with let you play online, like blizzard (not activisions COD) and Rockstar (GTA). Destiny 2 (bungie) won't let you play at all. others like Ubisoft can let you play certain games like Assassins creed and The Division 1, but not The divission 2 and For Honor. i don't know why they let you play some but not others.

rule of thumb: if there is competitive online multiplayer you should assume it won't work, unless it's VAC (because Valve makes this one themselves and they made Proton, etc) or you find consistent reports from users that it's fine
