Running windows based game dedicated servers on a linux host
Hello me and some friends have invested some of our money into getting a couple servers so we can host Atlas and Ark for our community. We are probably going to be using a linux based system as it is most cost efficient. A windows server could cost us up to an addition 1000 dollars or more. So this is our best option.. So running ark and atlas should be relatively easy as both games offer a linux based dedicated server ..

But there are alot of other games out there and we will probably have some room left on our servers to host some other games. My question is :

Does anyone have instructions of how to run steam based games servers on a linux host server that has a windows based dedicated server only. More specially i guess games like Empyrion Galactic Survival, Conan Exiles , Dark and Light .. ect.. basically im looking for a guide ..

Thanks a bunch .

Try looking for those games/servers on LinuxGSM:

LinuxGSM is a Game Server setup helper tool. It uses scripts to automate the installation and configuration of each of over 100 game servers (somewhat like Lutris does for Wine games).

If that doesn't help, and the servers are available on Steam, they just might work via Proton like windows games can... but it's just a guess, I've never even ran a game server before, so don't know the limitations.

Then there is Lutris, which might hold some recipes for game servers as well...

... I'm imagining accepting several inbound p2p network connections may hit a wall or need configuring, but not sure how well Wine and Proton have been handling this, and how much a linux server firewall config would differ due to that.

LinuxGSM looks fantastic. As far as I can tell from theory and as a Linux Business Server Admin, there are no differences for a Steam Game Server to either host games for Windows or Linux. For example: the Windows only Game "Just Cause 3" is also supported by LinuxGSM. ;)
