Steam not using Nvidia GPU in my Laptop
can anyone help me how to fix this? I'm new to linux and tried playing dota2 but my FPS can't reach 60, I have 840M GPU. normally on windows i have 60+ FPS in high settings but now even in lowest settings i cant reach 60, so I'm sure its using the Intel GPU and not Nvidia, I already install the driver and set Prime to Nvidia. any fix for this?

First you need to install the Nvidiadriver for your Geforcegpu.
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-nvidia-drivers-on-linux-mint

After this is done reboot your system. With the Nvidiadriver comes the nvidia-settings tool. You should be able to switch between the integrated (Intel HD) and the dedicated Nvidia Geforce GPU with this tool.

After switching you'll have to reboot each time because linux will switch completely to the selected GPU so the whole system and not only steam and your games will run over the selected GPU.

For Dota2 you can also install the vulkan dlc to use it instead of the standard opengl renderer.

PRIME doesn't work with Nvidia anymore? I though that Nvidia driver was able to switch GPU without rebooting

Are you using vulkan renderer on Dota 2? If so, check that you have installed vulkan drivers on Mesa too (A coworker once told me that he had to do it in order to get working his nvidia dedicated gpu on his laptop)

You should be able to switch your GPU with the nvidia-settings tool it should look like this:

Switchable graphics are more or less a disaster on linux, and if they are working they are not very easy to handle. Using Nvidia Prime may or may not work for you dependig on how the GPU switching is handled by your notebook.

Not a disaster if you have an AMD gpu

Yeah, nVidia GPUs use a firmware V-Sync for frame relay on switched graphic setups that is broken on the Linux implementation. As a result nearly every frame tears every frame.

There is a fix but it only works on newer nVidia GPUs and it involves using the Beta nVidia kernel module KMS mode on the nVidia chips.

I created new shortcut, after then its worked. create "Steam_Nvidia.desktop" filename.

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Steam_Nvidia
Exec=steam
Comment=to start steam in nvidia
Terminal=false
PrefersNonDefaultGPU=false
Icon=cinnamon-panel-launcher
Type=Application
