SteamVR - allow external program or socket access for camera passthrough functionality
Hey, recently picked up an Index, nice piece of kit so far. Just waiting on the driver fix for the DisplayPort audio. One thing I would like to request is either a way to have steam run a program or connect to a unix socket that returns images (PNG, Pandas/OpenCV Dataframes (preferably), whatever) and overlays that on the VR display, just like the camera passthrough on Windows.

I've been playing with some camera stuff outside of this application, and I've found that my code currently works with the cameras on the Index, sooooo..... :)

If this needs to go onto a different forum, let me know. Thanks!

Also, I fully admit that my Ubuntu 18.04 installation may not be picking up on functionality that's already present in SteamVR. If that's the case, let me know and I'll start troubleshooting.

This is a user forum, so you might get some help here from fellow users... but Valve isn't reading everything, so don't expect them to reply officially with expert help...

...and I'm not sure there are many folks in this forum who actually have an Index already (can't recall anyone posting about it before you, at least not beyond "looks good, one day when I have enough money I might get one").

For Steam on Linux issues they have a GitHub account that is used as a bug tracker tool:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues

For the Index on Linux it looks like the best channels for professional Valve support would be one of these:

Thanks Marlock! I've checked into a thread over there that mentions changing a .vrsettings config file, but no love. II'll handle things in the other discussion channel.
