GNOME is not a terminal, but a desktop environment. My favorite is KDE, but I guess if your computer doesn't run GNOME fast enough, it neither will for KDE. Xfce is an example of so-called "leight-weight" DEs.

I'm using konsole. I wonder though how a terminal program could be slow...?

I run an a sh file and it takes 2 seconds to respond, I do the same with a random ♥♥♥♥♥♥ terminal emulator and its instant :/

Try Terminator

xterm would be one of the fastest and minimalist terminal emulators that is made for X

xfce-terminal is not so bad either imo... and there are are dozens others that do the same...
there really is no big difference tbh... for true experience go for tty (CTRL ALT F1-7)
xfce4-terminal and terminator are my favorites

ANY Linux terminal is VERY MINIMAL in in processor/gpu requirements, so I think the problem must be something else, unrelated to gnome-terminal

Just trying to help :steamfacepalm:

... perhaps simply re-install it, have NEVER heard of any issue with gnome-terminal being slow - EVER - or any other terminal (by definition they are exponentially faster than GUIs
konsole FTW, IMHO
Slow)?
Медленный)? Это как)?

for the record - you got me curious ...
I installed 3 other "terminals"
xterm, mate terminal, and UXTerm ... including gnome-terminal they ALL opened steam in 6-7 seconds - so back to my point . Terminals Emulators - DO NOT (in my opinion) make ANY difference in a normally operating system.

frww - that's that :steambored:

i think the best is lxde-terminal. fast, little, and easy.

Terminal emulators have nothing to do with how efficient precesses like steam run really, they rely on different libraries and may behave differently just on a not so normally operating system in some ways. I think OP's GTK is just acting up or has hanging processes, causing delays or ques.
Yea in general there is no real difference.
You can try Guake. It is a very comfortable terminal for casual use, but if you are looking for a most advanced terminal emulator, i prefer terminator. :calm_creep:

Surprised nobody has mentioned rxvt-unicode yet. I thought that one was fairly popular. It's my favorite.
